Wine bottle cake

corporate cake bottle

Wine box cake made for charity bakeoff at work. New element for me on this cake was the wooden sides of the box – these were done using gumpaste pieces, rolled out, allowing some “cracked” pieces to create the aged wood look, then painted with liquid brown food colour to look like wood grain. “Wood shavings” were done using my sugarpaste gun with the flat attachment – same thing I used for Pink Dolly’s hair. “Gloss” on bottle was done using black-tinted piping gel which was painted over the top of black fondant.

The label was designed in powerpoint (for those interested, the holey dollar is the Macquarie Bank symbol, 1985 was the year Macquarie was founded and it is an Australian investment bank hence the value behind “Product of Australia”) and then printed out by Cake Decorating Solutions in Willoughby – great guys, very helpful, and much more reasonable price for an A4 printout than I’ve found before.
